Wow! Am I ever looking forward to spring

I know, it’s now March and the beginning of sustained warmer weather should be just around the corner. But I learned long ago not to be too optimistic until after March Madness. Oh well, won’t be long now.

Ladies in Porsches (LIPS): February 4 – Eight of our ladies gathered this month at Backstreets Bar and Grill for a little lunch and fellowship. They also contributed $5.00 each to support the children of Crossnore School.

Monthly Membership Meeting: February 10 – We had quite a crowd at this month’s meeting. Thirty-two members and friends gathered at FOURK Restaurant for dinner and to visit with fellow Porsche enthusiasts. We were pleased to welcome four first-time attendees - Mario Farias, Donald Tarleton and Brock Long with friend Bryan Graham – and look forward to seeing them at future events.

Jason Herman, a representative of Hagerty Insurance, joined us as guest speaker. In addition to outlining the many ways his agency (Jason Herman Insurance) and Hagerty can be of service to Porsche Owners, he also presented an update on current values of classic Porsches. In short, thought the market is currently a bit flat, it is clear Classic Porsches have appreciated significantly over the past few years and there is little reason to believe that this trend will not continue.
Jason also engaged the group in a little Porsche trivia contest through which several participants won some nice gifts.

Speaking of gifts, this evening’s raffle yielded three winners:

•Patty Arasi won a Meguires detail kit (which she promptly passed to husband, Lou)

•Don Tarleton won a Porsche labeled electronic device charger/cord organizer

•Rudy Mauney won an insulated wine cup which he promised to put to good use.

As a result of the raffle, we were able to raise $170.00 to support Crossnore Communities for Children. Thank you all who participated.

We need some help! As you know, PCA is a volunteer organization. I, along with wife Jane, have functioned as Director(s) of the Hickory Area for more than ten years. Though it has been a pleasure to do so, we also have other interests. Consequently, we are asking for a volunteer to assume the role of Area Driving Tour Coordinator to help plan, coordinate and sometimes lead (with the help of others) our monthly driving events. For more details please contact either myself (hickory-ad@carolinas-pca.com) or Bryson Kiser, the Region’s Driving Tour Coordinator. We would love to welcome you to our team.

Speaking of team and volunteers, a search is currently underway for nominees to the Carolinas Region Board of Directors Executive Council. For details about these opportunities, please contact search committee Chairman, Doug Strait. We need your help and involvement to assure the Carolinas Region and Hickory Area continues to provide the kinds of programs and events you have come to value.
